Children of the Night; seeking
yet another way to supplement our Need.
It is not that we Desire it;
Oh, Worthy One; it is a Dis-ease
within our Souls, that Drives
us; on and on through streets of Darkness,
grasping for that one last
Coin.

The
world is out of balance. The ideologies
that once provided us with a hope for the future have become distorted, and can
no longer provide us with a wholesome basis for growth. The economic gaps in
society are becoming increasingly distinct, and governments throughout the
world are trying to hang on to their faltering economies.
The
suppression of individual freedom in the Middle East and in Asia is
contributing to the increase of religious extremism in the world. And in the
West, the true meaning of Freedom is rapidly becoming distorted. Accumulated wealth and the effect of
monetary policies that favor the rich is making the future look bleak for the
individual.
There
is a feeling of uncertainty beginning to emerge in the world, and there doesn't
appear to be any clear purpose in our political agenda. Honor and respect is seeping into oblivion,
and wisdom has passed away with our forefathers.
Our leaders have
not been able to provide us with any solutions either. In fact they’re part of
the problem - they've aligned themselves with the business community, and they
continue to support that alliance.
The money that governments borrow comes from the business
community. Hence it's them that’s funding our politicians.
In our
efforts to hang on to our economic security, we're sacrificing the health of
our planet, a consumer based economy, can only do one thing - it will continue
to deteriorate our resource base needlessly. When Governments have to support
such an economy, they're indirectly supporting the collapse of our Environment.
There's
something wrong with our political agenda - Governments used to be able to
provide us with a good social net, good education, and good health care. But today that network is being threatened
because there's never enough money to go around.
Think
about that for a minute, and you'll realize, that something has got to change -
something has got to change in the way governments service their kingdoms.
Governments are
well aware of the consequences of making changes too quickly. During the process of industrialization,
we've managed to develop a strong financial groundwork for our economy.
However, because our economic policies were largely structured on the basis of
capitalism, it's difficult to make changes because corporations now control
many of our natural resources. We've
gained a great deal of comfort, extended our reach, but because of the economic
alliances within our political system, the greater initiative within our Nation
is now being stifled.
It's
becoming a global problem. The economic
body in the world is organizing rapidly; local peoples are losing the battle to
save their jobs, because governments are making it easy for corporations to set
up trading blocks between countries - It’s becoming more difficult to build new
factories at home, because it's cheaper to build them in countries that support
'slave' labor.
There
are other options, but Governments throughout the world support the status
quo. Alternative possibilities are
often difficult to make, because our taxes support the infrastructure that
already exists - Unfortunately real potentials are often overlooked when
political patronage becomes a priority in decision making.
We
need to resolve the vast differential, which exists between the rich Nations
and the poor, and in so doing could eliminate a good proportion of the world's social
problems, problems that have resulted, by and large, because of our inability
to deal with the huge economic gaps that exists in our societies. And that's true for the world as well - the
world is economically unbalanced because people are choosing capitalism over
socialism.
The true meaning of freedom and equality is
becoming distorted. Accumulated wealth
is putting too much freedom into the pockets of the rich. (It’s not their
fault; it’s the system) the same system that’s responsible for the collapse of
our environment. We need to change our political perspective before we (as a
People) can bring our planet into alignment, with our Mother Earth.
This
organism - our Earth could provide everyone with a reasonable standard of
living, but that isn’t what’s happening - While humanity cries out, from all
corners of the World, the controlling elite are digging in.
And while
millions of people become strapped to a life of routine, millions more are
becoming the victims of poverty and political suppression - while a few ride
high in the ‘apple cart’.
Peoples are beginning to see
what's going on. In some parts of the world the revolution is real. But here at home, people aren't doing
anything about it, because it's not that bad - money is still filtering down
from the top. It won’t be long however before people begin to realize that the
world’s problems will eventually affect us all.
The
future looks bleak - but I think we can change. There will always be those who
insist on securing the reins, to try and hang on to the status quo, as a
result, cultures all over the world will suffer - are suffering.
There are clear indications that the economic
extremes in the world, are contributing to the downfall of our societies.
Governments are isolating themselves by shifting responsibilities to local
levels, and Corporations are realigning themselves to protect their common
‘interests’. They're not doing much to
redistribute the wealth, but they are making massive profits and
disproportionate salaries.
They’re
not dealing with the vast differential that exists in the world. The present
economy is pulling many people into the gutter - People are turning to crime,
because the dollars are flowing uphill instead of downhill - to those who
really need them.
Unfortunately
it's always the poor who end up suffering the most - When are we going to get
it through our heads that people are more important than Money?
Our
Global economy cannot continue as is. There is a lot of money around that's
just feeding on itself. It's not based on anything real; it’s just sitting in
someone’s ‘pocket’ collecting interest.
The
problem is, someone else is paying for all that interest. Where is it coming from? It's being scraped off the backs of the
working class, the consumer, and the resources. We aren't getting a fair share
of the resources, which rightfully belong to us - we the People.
Our
economy has been growing steadily because our resource base has been secure. If
those resources disappear, a good proportion of our economy could become
immobilized. The reason that we are experiencing so many cutbacks in government
spending is because our social costs are rising - in their efforts to keep a
lid on things, they've overspent the budget.
There
is an increasing effort on the part of politicians to maintain an illusion of
recovery. And because people, have not
fully awakened to the seriousness of our global dilemma, we tend to want to
accept that illusion. Recovery will
occur all right, but it won't occur without global restructuring. If political systems continue to maintain an
economic hold on situations that require structural changes, the final crunch
will be severe.
There
are no “fix it” solutions for global problems.
If the economy is in crisis, no one is buying. Most of our global problems are occurring because industry has
been exploiting people and their lands for profit. When people begin to wake up to that fact, they get angry.
You say
there is ‘dead wood’ in the streets pulling us down. I say there is more dead wood in the glass towers of America than
all the streets put together. Full of white collar workers, trying to figure
out a way to get more dollars out of the public, squeezing dollars out of
dollars, contributing little to the welfare of our dear Earth.
In the
old days, people could always go back to the land. But today, the land is out
of reach for most people. We've got social
problems because there aren't enough good jobs to go around. When our social
problems increase, so does our crime rate.
One of the
problems with social assistance is that it draws a line between people - the
poor feel neglected, and the rich distance themselves - People commit crimes
because they no longer respect each other. We need to get rid of the gap
between the rich and the poor. If we don't, we're going to be in real trouble.
One of the ways
we can do that is by initiating more social programs - Programs for the arts;
programs to help single parents; programs to help disadvantaged children, long
term maternity leave, summer camps, sports camps - All kinds of programs. If we
could bring down our social costs, more programs could be made available.
I think we need to open up the Land again. We need to develop programs
for self sufficiency and skills development, so that the people who want to,
can learn to build their own shelters, grow their own vegetables, and ‘haul
their own water’.
The
problem is governments are largely responsible for creating the economically
dependent society we live in. They don't always do what's best for people. And
that’s because the business community is holding them at ransom. They don’t
really want to see people become self sufficient, because that will cut down on
their profits.
We
live under the pretense of economic security, but when you start to ask around,
the answers aren't good. Young people have their doubts about the future. They say that the opportunities are
disappearing. Old people are afraid;
afraid of being left alone, without any health care. The middle class is digging in, and the poor are beginning to
growl.
And
while all this is going on, politicians continue to try to deceive us, into
believing that they can fix it. "All we've got to do is get the Economy
rolling". Well it won't work, the environment is beginning to fall apart,
the gap between the rich and the poor is increasing, and there is fighting in
the streets. Those who have control over the economy are making sure they don't
lose their economic security. The
rest of us will have nothing, unless we secure what's rightfully ours - the Land and our Resources.
